Newbie needs help with Firefox upgrade

I used the Firefox 1.0 that came with my FC3 install to download the new Firefox 1.04. Used File-roller to uncompress to the /usr/firefox/firefox-installer folder, and then ran the install. The new Firefox version started right up.

After shutting it down, I can't find how to start it again! The folder mentioned above has all sorts of interesting executable files.

Double-clicking one of them will start the app from this folder only, but with a preliminary message asking if I want to open it in terminal window, explore contents, or run the file. This seems a bit awkward.

How do I get a link on the top panel, like the old version has?

Before we try to get the new firefox version working, you should ALWAYS try to upgrade your system through yum if possible. When you manually download something like a new version of software, yum doesn't know that you've done this.

Let's assume that you want to "yum install coolAppVersion4" that depends on Firefox 1.0.4. Yum doesn't know that you have FF 1.0.4 installed, so if it's available, it will re-download it and re-install it. That's best case. Worst case, you will run into dependency problems.

It's been a while since I've used yum, but if you type either "yum update firefox" or "yum install firefox" do you get any joy? The package might also be named "mozilla-firefox" (ie, 'yum install mozilla-firefox&#039.

future reference : /usr/firefox/firefox-installer folder/firefox is where youre Firefox "executable" is located from the first install
