I installed an ISP manager program called 42goISP. Since I installed it I can no longer ftp to the server..... can;t even "ftp localhost" from directly on the server.
The error message is simply "connection refused". I realize I can uninstall it and use FTP again but I'd like to understand the problem so I can talk with their tech support.
I'm running Mandrake 10 linux and proftpd . There is no firewall runnning (at least before the install of 42goISP).
Can anyone point me in the right direction to troubleshoot this problem?
For example: how can I tell if a firewall or something is restricting access to port 21?
First Check that your FTP Server is Running !!
# netstat -a | grep ftp
Second use Nmap to scan your localhost ports.
# nmap -Up 21 127.0.0.1
If you find no result then you must check your firewall.
# iptables -L INPUT -n --line | grep 21
# iptables -L OUTPUT -n --line | grep 21
# iptables -L FORWARD -n --line | grep 21
