If you can get a binary download for your distro, you should go with that route. There really isn't any noticeable performance difference on modern machines anymore. If you can't get a binary for your distro, then you really have no choice.

okay. if you are in the console mode (becuase i accidentally turned off the gui log in) how do i go back to the gui desktop for gnome?

if it wasnt your x server isnt running yet, then run it using the startx command..if it is already running, then you probably are in console mode..use ctrl + alt + f7
After uninstalation of linux, I formatted my disk in FAT32 format and restore the ghost image of my previous windows OS. I wonder why the GRUB loader is still on my start-up. Pls tell me how to remove this GRUB loader in the start-up. The windows cannot load because of this GRUB loader in the start-up.
