It is impossible for a full blown Linux installation and Windows to co-exist on one partition. You can install both on one hard disk, but different partitions.
Hi, very new and novice linux user. i have a 120gb hard drive with windows xp (fat32) running on it. Interested in installing linux on one of the partition. I've research a little bit and decided to download mandrake 10.1 dvd version since it was the most user friendly. need help in setting it up. thanks

yes, i'm sorry if i'm not so clear. i have a separate partition for the linux os
yes, you can do so but linux must be on a separate partition different from NTFS. and once you are almost done installing it, try not messing up with the MBR. i suggest you follow with BeoR's instructions on how.
problems again, during installing i got an invalid hdlist description error. searched in google and i need to redownload back the iso file. looks like my downloaded iso is corrupted.
Where did you get the error? At what stage of the installation?

during the partitioning stage. I even tried auto partition but still got the same thing. what is a superblock by the way?
finish downloading the file again. another problem. looks like i need to burn it again. tried to install it but errors came installing kde. i can't read some files. currently running gnome.
So your first error was a disc error? ... and apparently also your second error.
Are you downloading from official mirrors?
