I was wondering does anyone here know how to exacute shell commands on a client from a server useing java?

Basicly what i want to do is have a user click on a button on my web site that will say open the konsole or say openoffice on there computer?

I am sure it can be done with java but i have nooo idea how and php cant do that.

Any help from anyone would be greate.

Hey CT. You would have to leverage JINI, which allows Java to leverage other language/system libraries, I am sure you could use it to execute a shell script. But I am not totally sure, as I have never done it. I can see that it would open a massive security hole tho. If I can run a shell script on your machine from an applet, there isnt much stopping me from nuking your system.
