Is it an IDE hard drive? What other OS is on it now?
Can you please write down the exact error that you mentioned?
when i tried to install red hat linux 9 on my pc it gives me problem as,
my hardware configuration is
via 845 motherboard , (His manufacturer)
cel 2.13 ghz cpu
512 Ram , color monitor
after booting when i press enter , it checks hardware probe my monitor well ditect mouse and after that it gets hang.
when i tried with linux text , it goes ahead of monitor probing but it gives error while hard disk partitioning .i even tried with auto and manual partitioning but it says you /boot partition can not be boot or any other such kind of error message.
pl tell me how to go
thanks and regards
that distro is really quite old (3 yrs). It may be helpful to get a newer version - like fedora core 4 or ubuntu... it sounds like it does not like the ide controller
telnet mtrek.game-host.org 1701
I didnt think it is problem with ide disk , bcause windows 2000 is working fine .
also it gets stuck after probing monitor , so there is not any problem with hard disk.
as far as error , there is no such written error like windows.
I think PBHarris means that the software for the IDE controller included on Red Hat 9 is 5 years old by now; the issue you are experiencing might be a bug on it and it may have been fixed on newer versions.Originally Posted by pansarevaibhav
