    Hi guys,

I have been using WAMP for about 4 months now. But I'm looking forward to getting a taste of LAMP this time around. I have barely used linux before so I'm really excited to try out the different distros.

I hope to read a lot (and post as well) in as many threads that I can. So see (or read for this matter) you guys!

Welcome to the boards TGAM123, glad to see you.

I too am a programmer, Java has been my forte for the past 10 years. I am in an admin role at my job now, they let me admin Linux machines and I get paid for it!

    Started with Corel Linux

Hello, I'm Ed. I'm a hobbyist. Started with Corel Linux in the prior century. Been back and forth with another OS which I still need for work. I'm using Mepis 8.0, a Debian derivative for all my recreational and some of my work computing. I'm confused about udev and the xorg.conf that's almost empty. I've redone my xorg.conf to pretty much get my Alps mousepad to do what I want. I have an intermittent problem with my Intel Mobile chipset video. Sometimes XFWM doesn't know the screen size, it thinks it's 1024x768 instead of 1440x900. Found this site googling for my problems and found lots of interesting stuff to do. I've set up sshfs and I can vnc over ssh to my fileserver at home from the coffee shop. Cant do it from work, too many rules. If you have a Dell Latitude E5400, I'd love to share xorg.conf files.
