Greetings all,
I am by no means a newbie to Un*x. I have used practically every Un*x version since v6 on an PDP 11/34 in 1976. My first language was "C", and was one of the original unix-wizards back in the days of Usenet, where I was the system administrator for philabs!scb.
My re-introduction to Linux and openfree comes from the recent release of Vista. I have been quietly suffering under the various versions of Windows since 3.1, but in the early days the only Un*x personal computer was a 20k sun workstation, so I never bothered with having a PC at home. I have 4 Windows XP computers and when I priced how much Vista Optimum and Office 2007 was going to cost (around US$1300), and combined with the fact that Aero Gloss would run on NONE of the computers, including a 6 month old Dell laptop, I had decided I'd had enough, and went out and bought an iMac 20". I don't know why I hadn't done it sooner. I have subsequently been in the process of converting the family and all the other PC's in the house to run a Linux version. (What was I thinking????)
Anyhow, I tried Xandros and gave up, and and presently having success (mostly) with Ubuntu edgy.
I am probably not the only customer Microsoft has lost due to Vista.
Regards,

hello to all forumers from Hellas
glad to be here
Welcome to the forums. I actually went to a little Greek restaurant today for lunch. It's called Yiassoo and has good gyros and falafels. About seven of us from work went there, bright sunny day and we sat outside. Spring is a good time of year.
Welcome to the forums!
