    directory size

    hi,
    I wants to check directory size in red hat linux on command prompt.
    Dont give me the solution as check with ll or ls -la bcase it gives always o/p of any directory size as 4kb.
    pl help me out in this simple matter.

    Type the command du following the directory name and hit the enter key. This gives the size of the directory in kilobytes.

    in addition to what trickster said
    du -h will give it in human readable format
    telnet mtrek.game-host.org 1701
