Looks good. Thanks.
Some of you mentioned that the links on Linux Junior were out of date and so was the news.
I have created a "Linux Links" page on the wiki and also a link to OpenFree News where members can submit news whenever they feel the forums aren't quite the place for it.
The Wiki is now open to forum members. Your logins are the same as in vBulletin. News, requires a separate account for now.
The wiki URL is http://www.openfree.org/pet/
Looks good. Thanks.
Peter, whats up with news.openfree.org? I haven't been able to access it for a couple of days now. It doesn't throw any errors, it just shows a blank page. Running FF 1.5
Peter, is there any way to integrate the news into the main site? I know you probably have a million other things to do, but this is just an idea. news.openfree.org really doesn't serve a purpose as its pretty much disconnected from the rest of the site. I think its real appeal should be that these news items can be discusses on the forum were all our friends can see them as well.
What do you think?
That would be a good way to get people to visit the news site, but I think it would still be too disjointed. The news is a great conversation starter for new threads, but with the news site being completely seperate I think it disuades people from visiting and commenting.
I really like it where news can be posted, it is featured on the home page of the main site and people can discuss it in the forum.
And lets not forget, if the news is in a seperate forum, it isn't going to boost peoples post count if they comment, which can be a factor to more people that I realized.
So create a sub-forum like "Linux News from the Web"? I have no real commitment to news.openfree.org, so if the sub-forum takes off I'll just take it off the air.
Yes I think that idea will spur discussion and more involvement in the community. The news item might draw someone in, then they might get involved in posting.
If there were a way to keep news items at the top of the featured threads list that would help their exposure as well.
Just ideas, use what you want, no hard feelings if you decide to go anothe route.
