    Re: ubuntu

Everyone that knows me knows I'm not only a Unix nut, but a Linux LIVE CD distro nut. I was perusing Slashdot and saw a posting about Ubuntu releasing a LiveCD. Being the nut that I am, I downloaded the ISO and burned it to disk.

    Review:
This is the first LiveCD I've tried on my newest laptop that didn't hang without passing boot parameters. This is also the first LiveCD that hasn't required boot parameters to get sound working "out of the box." HOWEVER... I can't seem to find any mp3 support on the cd. I'm sure I could install it after boot time with apt-get or some such, but haven't tested this. Redeeming factor? It does support Ogg Vorbis out of the box. My gripe is... how many people keep ogg files on their windows systems (ok, I do but I'm weird)?

Seriously though. This is a very good (and fast booting) LiveCD distro for what it offers. Try it out some time.
