Typically linux filesystems don't require defragging, and if you did, you probably wouldn't find much performance increase. However, if you are still insterested, a google seatch on 'linux defrag' shows up some interesting hits

Gentoo (as other distros can) does do a disk check for me after ~40 mounts. Mind you, I rarely shut off my pc, only reboot for kernel updates, and the results are always between 1-2% discontiguous.
