    Graphical Gentoo install

Apparently, gentoo 2005.0 will have a fully graphical installation process, not just a CLI on a bootsplash. Also, gentoo-sources are going fully 2.6 as of the next release, as gentoo-dev-sources will be merged into gentoo-sources. In other areas, they will be splitting up the KDE packages so that you can, for instance, install Katlantic without having to emerge all the other games that come in the kde-games package. Lastly, they will be producing a live cd that is a full desktop environment, neat!

    Just some general gentoo news.

    Re: Graphical Gentoo install

Awesome. I saw this on /. today and though that I may have to try Gentoo... Every time I tried to install it in the past (maybe 5 or 6 months ago), the system either hangs on the same step, or I don't get the results I am looking for on that same step (following the installation guide on Gentoo's site). I think it is where you are extracting the portage image or something?? I can't remember... It might be hard to get me away from Slack though... I am just now getting comfortable with it (well, not really) and I am not sure if I want to change to something else so soon. We'll see...

    Re: Graphical Gentoo install

I was slightly misinformed. The graphical installer is going to be for testing purposes only in the next release. You can try it if you want, it might work. Most unstable stuff works fine in gentoo.

Alastair has a box not unlike yours, and he just installed gentoo. Maybe he has some tips for you about installating gentoo for 64 bits.

Yeah, I will have to hit 'em up for some information when I decide to try it out. It may be a bit... time is in short supply around here.
