    Vendetta-Online

If any of you Linux people out there that don't know. Vendetta-Online has been accepting all applications into the Beta of this MMORPG so if you want to have a crack at it, then I suggest you do.

I've been playing it along with Babbing, and we've been having a pretty good time. This game is running smooth like glass even on my 1.3Ghz Duron with a GeForce 2 Pro 64MB. This means that probably even at it's minimum recommended of 1Ghz it's probably going to run extremely well.

So while it's free, and if you're looking for something to waste time on, then please feel free to try it out. You may even like it well enough to subcribe when it's released. I would think of this as a very involved Demo.

    Re: Vendetta-Online

I got your note to try it. I signed up for the beta. I THEN found out that it will be subscription based. I will not be playing this game. I don't believe in paying for a game, and then paying to PLAY the game.... it's just wrong. If I bought the game, I've paid all I should have to for that game unless a very good expansion pack is released. I shouldn't have to pay to play a game I already purchased!

Yes, I completely understand that, and is much the way I feel. Hence the "I would think of this as a very involved Demo." comment.

I understand both sides of this coin. For the developers or rather the hosting company. It's going to need money to keep the servers running for users to connect to, so they may play the game. Which means they are going to need an income. This is achieved by the subscription.

Then there is the user who has paid his/her $50 for the game and now has to continue to pay another re-occurring fee. It's like buying the game over, and over, and over just to play it. I personally feel that MMORGP should be distributed through the internet using Bittorrent so the users don't have to pay $50 for the game, and it also helps alleviate the bandwidth requirements for the servers distributing the game.

To sum up. In sorta a compromise on my behalf. If allowed to download the game for free, and simply having to pay the online subscription at a fair price which IMHO is $5 or less because that's $60 dollars a year. I might be able to justify playing.

That's a bummer. There is a free trial with the game going gold so you can still give it a try. You might like it.

Right now I don't have the money to afford me this game so I'll have to put it off for a while. I can say that I did enjoy the beta and it works like a charm on the minimum requirements and in Linux. Very well written game. I wish the develpors the best of luck.

If you guys can think of a good contest, I'll buy the winner this game!

    Re: Vendetta-Online

Something obvious, but we could have a game oriented contest. I think if we do that though, we should use open source games that are free so everyone has a chance. We should also have a best 2/3 or best 3/5 or something along those lines and have various genre of games so everyone gets a shot at their strong point.

For example: Cube for FPS, Crack Attack for thinking (Tetris Attack like clone.), a Strategy game, Racing game, Puzzle game, etc.... etc...

    EDIT:
First Person Shooter : Cube (Alternate if core files are free - Transfusion)
Real Time Strategy : Gate 88
Turn-Based Strategy : The Battle for Wesnoth
    Racing : Slune
Combat Flight Sim : YSFlight (Alternate free while Beta - Targetware)
Arcade : LBreakout2 and Crack Attack
    Action : Mtp-Target

Please people. Add to the list if you have better alternatives.

This sounds very like a very cool idea. I would be handy if we could all meet sometime on teamspeak or IRC and discuss the merits of each game as well as rules and such.
