    Second NIC (D-LINK 538TX)

I am trying to move on my linux project, but when I put in the second network adapter ... during linux bootup, it didn't detected.

    I tried using
    - D-link 528CT
    - D-link 538TX

    Distro : RedHat 9
    eth0 : PLANET ENW-9503 ( Realtek )

Q1: Normally is there any issues when installing a second NIC ?

Thanks for helping out a newbie

    Re: Second NIC (D-LINK 538TX)

I don't think the DFE-538TX is supported in Linux. I went to D-Link's website and it doesn't list Linux support. Yet if you goto DFE-530TX+ it list Linux support.

I also tried to search for a driver on Google and wasn't able to come up with anything.

    Re: Second NIC (D-LINK 538TX)

    Hi there,
I pop in a Dlink DE220P that used the 'ne' module. I got it up and tried the IP masquerading and it work ... but I wasn't able to let the outside world access the webserver.
From what I understand that I need to setup port forwading, is this correct? I would like to have email service available also.
    Thanks

Yes port forwarding is what you need. Typical web servers use port 80. Forwarding using IPTABLES would look as such:

    iptables -A PREROUTING -t nat -p tcp -i eth0 --dport 80 -j DNAT --to 192.168.0.x:80

    Re: Second NIC (D-LINK 538TX)

    Hi there SkyNet,
Thanks for the port forwarding tip. I will try it out this weekend :-\

Another question, after setting up outside (internet) would be able to see the home based webserver.

How about email server ? I am able to send email locally but I was wondering how to set it up so that I am able to receive and send email from my home base server ?

Thank you for your time and effort. I appriciate it alot

I think SMTP usually uses port 25 while POP uses port 110.
