Perhaps this will help a little bit. HP 870
I have been trying to set up an HP870 deskjet printer (which is linux supported) for a few days. I couldn't get it to work, so I tried using the KDE Printer configure tool. It asks you if the printer is local or network, so I chose local (it is on the parallel port). It then shows you all of the serial port addresses and should show me the parallel port address, in order for me to expand it and see what it connected to it. It will not allow this though. If I click on it, it gives me an error and says "Empty URI". All I have read says that I need to have a parallel driver load before doing this. How can I ensure that the parallel driver is loading? What is the darn parallel driver?

Thanks Skynet. On my first day of searching for an answer, I saw this area of linuxprinting, but when I started to read it, I just became more confused... CUPS...Lprng...spooler..... AHHH!!!
I will give it another shot, and maybe this time, I will get a clue. Thanks again.
