* I just got Gentoo up and running (limping), but my modem won't work.
In /proc/pci it is identified as a serial controller. I used," setserial /dev/ttyS0 irq5 port 0x9000 uart 16550a " Kppp querys the card, but returns empty fields in AT1, ect.
I understand that there is an RPM pkg. out there, but I can't install it. Maybe it needs a unique init string?* HELP.
???
Get the RPM from here:

I have never tried installing programs with RPM in Gentoo, however you can install RPM by doing an emerge rpm After this you should be able to follow the commands on the above link to install the program. (Note: You will probably need to be root)
If the RPM fails then we will need more information. Open a terminal window, type the following commands, and post the results of each (remember that commands in Linux are case sensitive!):
- /sbin/lspci
- less /proc/interrupts
- less /proc/ioports
- lsmod
- ls -l /dev/modem
