    just a few odd questions

    Ok peeps,
since no one had any posts for my rhct post, im now forced to ask questions.

    1) How do I list all of the groups and its members that are currently setup on a machine?

    2) How do I display the permissions that a member has?

And pls remember that this is from the command line.

    Thanks,
    10ded

    Re:just a few odd questions

There might be tools available to give you a nicer output, but if there aren't too many users use 'cat'
    # cat /etc/groups (or should ir be 'group'?)
    # cat /etc/passwd (list users, with some info)

Question 2, well those are assigned to files/directories.
    # ls -l <filename> will show you user, group, permissions etc

Thanks. I found the cat /etc/* right after I posted, but was wondering if you could just list the user and see what perms he/she/it had. I guess Im looking at it from the wrong point of view in that the user has no permissions assignable other than group. By changing the group perms you control the user.
Just trying to get the basics down solid before I go to class.
