    zaxismapping???

    hi guys

got slack 9.1 installed and scrollwheel isnt working!! well it didnt work in slack 9 either!! i read and did research but without sucsess!!!its an acer mouse and got 2 buttons, scrollwheel and the wheel can be klicked down as well!!currently klicking down the wheel does paste text!!!here my XF86config:

    Code:
    Section "InputDevice"

        Identifier "Mouse1"
        Driver "mouse"
        Option "Protocol" "PS/2"
        Option "Device" "/dev/mice"
        Option "ZAxisMapping""4 5"
    # Option "CursorShadow" "on"
    # Option "CursorShadowAlpha" "40"
    # Option "CursorShadowXOffset" "4"
    # Option "CursorShadowYOffset" "2"
    # When using XQUEUE, comment out the above two lines, and uncomment
    # the following line.
i did try it with IMPS/2 to but no sucsess, tell me when editing this file is it required to reboot the machine or is it enough to end session??

hope you can tell me what else i should try!!

you just need to restart X (log out and back in again)

last try if it doesn't work:
open a terminal and run 'xev'
move your mouse into the box that popped up and move the wheel up and down. this should come out:
    up:
ButtonPress event, serial 19, synthetic NO, window 0x1a00001,
    root 0x48, subw 0x0, time 1888159, (175,126), root177,189),
    state 0x0, button 4, same_screen YES

ButtonRelease event, serial 19, synthetic NO, window 0x1a00001,
    root 0x48, subw 0x0, time 1888159, (175,126), root177,189),
    state 0x800, button 4, same_screen YES

    Down:
ButtonPress event, serial 19, synthetic NO, window 0x1a00001,
    root 0x48, subw 0x0, time 1862162, (176,47), root178,110),
    state 0x0, button 5, same_screen YES

ButtonRelease event, serial 19, synthetic NO, window 0x1a00001,
    root 0x48, subw 0x0, time 1862162, (176,47), root178,110),
    state 0x1000, button 5, same_screen YES

note the button 4 and 5. thats what you are telling X to do, map button 4 and 5 to up and down. you could actually use 1 and 2 and make the left and right buttons scroll (i think)

as i said i did try it with option protocol IMPS/2 and it didnt work!!

    try a space in there
    Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5"
    jup i did that!!

xev is nice and cool but absolutly nothing happens when i scroll!!!its like the scrollwheel is dead :'( i realy need that for browsing da web and my folders but it just aint work!!!

well i installed mandrake 9.1 because there scrolling works, i then wrote down what was writen in the XF86config file about the mouse, then i installed slack again and tried that but without sucsess!!! got now slack 9.1 installed again and i did something in that config file and now startx aint work!!! this is friggon frustrating >

    Re:zaxismapping???

I think you need to set the number of buttons. If you're using an Explorer then it's something like:

    Option "Buttons" "5"

This regular Explorer I think uses IMPS/2, but it might be ExplorerPS/2.

else if you're using the Explorer 3.0 then it's:

    Option "Protocol" "ExplorerPS/2"
    Option "Buttons" "7"
    Option "ZAxisMapping" "6 7"
    AMD Athlon 2200+ 1.8Ghz
    1280MB PC-3200 CAS2.5 RAM
ATI Radeon 9600 Pro 128MB AGP
    Western Digital WDC WD2500JB-00FUA0 250GB 7200 rpm ATA/133
    Seagate ST3200822A 200GB 7200 rpm ATA/133
    Western Digital WDC WD1200BB-00CAA1 120GB 7200 rpm ATA/133
    Western Digital WDC WD800BB-00CAA1 80GB 7200 rpm ATA/133
    Maxtor OneTouch 2HA43R32 1TB 7200 rpm USB 2.0
    D-Link DFE-530TX+ 10/100 NIC
    D-Link DWL-G520 Rev.A
    Debian 5.0r1 Lenny

I have a $15 dollar optical scrollwheel usb mouse from walmart. It's a Labtec and the scrollwheel works fine.
