Pentium III, Dell Latitude, NOT SCSI?

    Yo G'z.

I just got my hand's on a laptop. Find fedora installed on it, i removed it swiftly for a slackware 8.1 install. Not knowing the machine hardware spec's, i assumed it had a scsi CDROM. It's now intsalled, but i can't mount the CDROM(mabey because i used the 'scsi.s' image?). How can i install 'bare.i' without reinstalling or interent access, is there another kernel (IDE) on the slack 8.1 CD?

I have those question's, but would also like some advice form people who have installed Linux on a laptop before and...have advice.

    Thank you.

    DefGuy.

i believe the kernels are on the cdrom... its probably just a module that you dont have loaded or something... im not quite too sure on the problem.

Got it. I just reconfigured Lilo with 'hdc=ide'
Has anyone noticed that despite you do something a million time's, you still sometime's forget...?

    Later G'z.

Actually, you don't have to mount IDE devices as ATAPI or whatever it is. You can use SCSI Emulation, and mount them with mount -t iso9660 -o ro /dev/sdx

This to me has proven to be faster, espcially with X-CD-Roast.

    isnt it required in XCDROAST?

Re:Pentium III, Dell Latitude, NOT SCSI?

It's not required that I remember, because I was using ATAPI/IDE, however when using those drivers it takes about 5 minutes for it to start doing anything. It's a very slow process. With the SCSI emulation it's all very fast.

ide-scsi emulation is needed for all cd burners.
kernel 2.6 can nativly use atapi writers

Re:Pentium III, Dell Latitude, NOT SCSI?

Yeah that's right, because I've never used my writer in ATAPI, but my reader was ATAPI, and it took X-CD-Roast along time to bring it alive. Since I switched the reader over to SCSI emulation, everything is working tip top now.
