Thread: ftp server?

    ftp server?

i dont know if this "fits" here but i think it does, i would like to start up a linux ftp server, what one is recommended? and what are some tips in getting it working? i know of two proftp and wuftp, i have read that proftp is better, i think ill set that up and try and get it working. this is so i can send and recieve files from friends. because there is really no way to send anything in linux atm other than going to windows, and that is getting annoying.

    Re:ftp server?

I've setup ProFTP before. Me with no experience in this before, it was rather confusing because everything is done with .txt files instead of GUI's. Although your Slackware should come with it already installed, and or either on the CD as a package.

IRC is another option for send/receive files. At little less difficult to setup IMO.

    Re:ftp server?

yes but i dont use irc, and i would probably find it more difficult after the ftp server is setup.
i dont mind editing loads of text files, thats what i like doing in linux, and skynet, you could set it up via gui, with webmin.

    Re:ftp server?

i bet what you really wish you knew was this, proftpd comes compiled and setup in linux, all you have to do is edit a few files.

    Re:ftp server?

I knew that, but I didn't care to do it through txt files at the time. I was in a hurry. Plus I had to learn it at the sametime.
