Gentoo Install

I have a laptop with one hard drive, I have Mdk 9.1 and Windoze XP on it. I am interested in trying out Gentoo. I downloaded the 2 CDs. Is there anything special I need to do to preserve the XP partition when I install... what is the best way to go about this? Thanks.
(I want to install Gentoo over the MDK install)

I would imagine just dont delete the partition the XP is on, and configure the bootloader to be able to boot XP
