    Ubuntu 5.04 is out!

The next release from the South African based distro Ubuntu has been release. The Hoary Hedgehog Release hit its mark today as it went gold exactly when the developers had been predicting. Boasting Gnome 2.10 and a parallel release (Kubuntu) with KDE 3.4, this is one to watch.

Keep you eyes on Linuxtracker.org as we all wait with much anticipation for the torrent to hit everyones favorite Linux bittorrent site.

    Re: Ubuntu 5.04 is out!

seems like everything has been fixed and is a great release, cept i keep running into one error at one point (meaning through about 8 installs this always comes up on an 1686 machine, and x86_64 machine, and im using ubuntu only repositories) and the only way to get past it is to create a new user account, at some random point, last night happened once i logged out of gnome, and when i try and log back it comes up with cannot write/find/execute file /home/n0thing/.ICEauthority, go in root try to make /home/soul/.ICEauthority, and it already exsists, other than that cant get network with their 2.6.10 kernel but a 2.6.11 work fines, confused anyhow how would i report this, other than that im pretty impressed

Well, i downloaded Kubuntu and Ubuntu, and I found that they still give me errors in regards to the Eth0. I hate Ubuntu for this, and I can't believe that i have to go all the way back to a *pix distro to get things working again.

Oh, Kanotix just made a release with KDE 3.4 and other great goodies. I am now using that, and I have no problems with it!

Oh, and it uses kernel 2.6.11-7

dont know if you tried this but add debians official repository to the list, deb/deb-srcftp://ftp.debian.org/debian sid main non-free contrib'

    #apt-get intall kernel-image-2.6.11-x

or you can compile your own, but i dont know what it is ubuntus 2.6.10 kernel is just ugly,i couldnt get network or sound, on my nforce2 mobo, however on my x86_64 install the 2.6.10 kernel seemed to be fine, and thinking back the .ICEauthority issue only happened when i upgraded from warty(specifically after installing the 2.6.10 kernel), still trying to figure out what causes the issue though

Just formatted the main machine last night and put a fresh install of Hoary on it. No problems that I have encountered. Sound, network, everything seems to be in tip top shape.

I haven't had alot of time to mess with it so I will post more as I continue working on it. KDE 3.4 is nice, but for some reason, it just 'feels' slower than 3.2. Maybe the problem is just that when I went to 3.2 I did it at the same time as moving to a 2.6.x kernel, so there were speed improvement all across the board.

I guess the next major release of KDE should be using the new Qt4 libs. The trolltech people have been spouting about the speed bump on 4, so I have my fingers crossed for good things!

    beezlebubsbum

    For Ubuntu 5.04 Hoary

    Eth0: System>Administration>Networking>Done

Please let me know if that doesn't do it! and also look at Ubuntu Update Manager. its under System>Admin Pull that up and monkey around until you get the multiverse and the Universe both on your repository list. Great goodies there, thats how I solved any multimedia problems

If the one and only BEEZ is ahead of me on this just tell us how YOU did it!
