A very simple question i hope?!?
I have created a back using tar. I have backed up to scsi tape drive on /dev/st0 , all seems have worked fine however I dont understand the documentation i have on how to get the files back from the tape? It says i have to position the tape to the correcy flags but im not sure how to do that.
It also doesnt say if the backup is going over the last backup or just adding to the end of the tape.
can anybody point me in the right direction?!
thanks
Paul

mmmmmmmmmmm mayo...
hmm, not really
what did you tar the backup with? is it compressed? if so in what format.
if you're unsure, whats the filename on the tape
whatdoyougetwhenyoumultiplysixbynine??
The command that i run is
tar cf /dev/st0 /etc
i can then verify the data on the tape with
tar tf /dev/st0 /etc
but wasnt sure how to get it back?
thanks
paul
