currently using 2.4.21, but a stable 2.4.22 came out, so i think i am going to try a custom kernel compile.
if not i can always go back to using my old kernel.

Update on the latest. Moved the P3 450 upto a 2.4.22 kernel, while my 1.3 Ghz, which btw is back down to 800 Mhz is using a 2.6.0-test2 kernel.

cool, never tried a beta kernel before. i dont think i will either lol, unless i needed a feature that was only in a beta kernel.

    2.4.20 on Slackware 9

Not sure what kernel I'll have when I install Yellow Dog on the PowerPC my friend gave me, but I'll probably upgrade to the latest stable when I get the chance.

    Re:What kernel are you using?

as something to do i might go and make a new kernel, 2.6.0test4, just as something to do, see how good it works and such.

i just took a look at the kernel 2.6.0 test4 make menuconfig, and i must say, WOW, alot of extra features. i like that alot, makes me very optimistic about my upgrade because that might be the stable kernel at the time that i buy my upgrade, or at least i think they are going to move to 2.6 as a new stable kernel release. i hope they are actually . because isnt it that the odd numbers are for beta and even are for stable? meaning to me that they are going to release a stable 2.6.0 as soon as its ready.

    Re:What kernel are you using?

Right, the even are for stable.

I'm considering buying a 200 GB drive, if I do purchase it. I may put Gentoo on the p3 450 plus kernel 2.4.22 to see if I can get anymore speed out of it.

The faster machine, my 800 Mhz I think I'll keep it running the 2.6.0 test kernels. However once a stable 2.6.0 is out, I think I will have both machines running that.
