skynet have you tried "emerge -s CID"? this will search for any package that contains anything to do with CID.

It doesn't pull up any fonts. The quest continues.

so try "emerge -s fonts" or something of the like. portage is really easy to use. also if you want to manually look around for them you can goto /usr/portage/ and then look in the subdirs and stuff, and you could also go updatedb then locate CID or whatever

Yeah, I've done all this, and still can't find what I'm looking for. I did manage to get ahold of Arial, but it didn't seem to help my situation any.

i see, well gentoo just kinda works for me, i dont piss with the fonts because i dont need to, was the same with slackware lol.

hmmm, fonts in gentoo? i haven't been following this thrad much, but:
* install xfs:

* get the bitstream vera fonts

eeeeek, sorry i haven't been around much. i have my hands full with gentoo right now myself. I jsut went through a large overhaul of hardware. i actually found older versions of gentoo easier to install than the new one, besides the fact it looks much better now. have you looked on the gentoo irc channel?
i will try to look into this more, but i am not near my computer nearly as much as i would like to be
