Red Hat, Inc. has a holiday gift for you - PHOEBE, a new
beta release of Red Hat Linux.

PHOEBE is 6 CDs of software (3 binary, 3 source), including, among
other things:
- the latest in bleeding-edge desktop and XFree86 technology
- Mozilla 1.2.1, with Xft antialiased fonts
- glibc-2.3.1, with the new Native POSIX Thread Library (NPTL),
for performant and scalable threading

PHOEBE is, of course, not intended for use on mission critical
or other production systems.

As always, we do not recommend the use of beta software on mission
critical or production systems. In fact, we may laugh at those who
try. Problems with PHOEBE should be reported via bugzilla, at:

Tell us what Phoebe is like, I dont think ill download it, maybe when it stops being beta.

hmmmm, any idea what the release will be numbered?
and is it mostly updates or is there something revolutionary in there...

The beta is 8.0.92, so the next release will be 8.1.

I installed it on a spare hard drive, but the fonts are wicked. Some fonts seem to be using AA and some don't. Especially the "interface fonts" in Gnome. I also noticed that the fonts where not AA in the installer. After the really nice fonts in 8.0, this is a setback. I have not seen it posted to bugzilla yet. Maybe just something with my system. I will have to boot it again tomorrow if I get time and play with it some more.
