    Linux and Ati's Radeon 8500

    Hello Folks,
Anyone happen to find a "How to" post on installing an ati Radeon 8500 on a linux based system
    I've tried RH 8.0,Suse 8.0, Mandrake 9.0. RH 8.0 and Suse were 2.4.18 mandrkae was 2.4.19.
I downloaded the RPM for the ATi 8500 from ati's page and followed along as well as I could.
I could never get the 3d acceleration to work. I'm trying to get Return to castle wolfenstein to work but the open GL subsystem can't get started because the card is not properly installed.
I'm super new to linux and I've picked up a few command line commands, what I need is a real detail step by step set of instructions. ATI offers no real help here, If you have a question on a config file just let me know what you want and I'll be more then happy to provide the information.
What I have is a trainwreck and I need a little direction to get started, In advance thank you for your help.

I will have to look at the docs fro ATI's binary drivers. I will get back to this thread.

Also note open source 3D support for the 8500 will be included in the next release of XFree86. ;D Last I read the release was scheduled for mid-late January 2003.

Alright, I looked at the ATI docs on their drivers.

What have you done so far?
Can you post the exact error message you are seeing?
Look in /var/log/XFree86.0.log and post any errors or warnings.
    Can you post your /etc/X11/XF86Config.
