    problems with irc access

    hi all

i have been having problems gaining irc access since installing my dsl router. it is a netgear DG814 Internet Gateway, this routes data from the external (Internet) IP to an inbuilt hub operating on the 192.168.0 range.

Anyway in the router setup there is very little information on ports etc being used. It is pretty basic and i can't see where to change anything.

How would can i check to see if irc is being blocked by the router? What ports should i be looking to unblock?

Thanks and hi to all at GLO!

Yeah, if you're trying to get on irc.getlinuxonline.com it's offline atm. However you can try irc.aniverse.com that runs on port 6667. It's pretty fast, and easy to log onto.

P.S. Long time no speak ;D

    Re:problems with irc access

    Guys

Good to be back, almost a year since i ventured onto this site..
I have been gentooing recently and i'm very impressed, i never thought that it would supercede RedHat

How are ya doing anyway? What have you been upto?

I'll try some of the other irc sites i know but i have a feeling it's not gonna work.

JimH/SkyNet, should i be firewalling my internal eth0? I'm not sure if i should or not as i can't really "get to" my public ip.

P.S. Good alsa support for ac97 chips at last

    Re:problems with irc access

Well you won't have to worry about the internal eth0 except that the external eth0 should be forwarding it's packets to it.

For IRC you'd need something like this in your firewall if you don't forward everything to your box.

    iptables -A PREROUTING -t nat -p tcp --dport 6667 -j DNAT --to 192.168.0.1:6667
