In Windoze, I use(d) mIRC to download MP3's. What is a good way to do it in Linux? I logged into xIRC but dont know if the commands are the same as in mIRC. Thanks.

Good idea, but I tried XChat and that worked great, I am very happy with it and just another way to make using Linux as my sole OS possible.

I have tried XChat and KVIRC with mixed success. The problem I have is that often I will get a message that someone is sending me the file I requested, but it never comes. The receive window never opens up, etc.

So, now I tried Chatzilla. The same thing happens, it says the file is on the way, but nothing. Chatzilla doesnt seem to have as many options as the other programs, but there has got to be a way to get these files?

In Windows I used to use Mirc. I never had this problem, if it said a file was on the way, it always came. So, I just need to figure out if I am doing something wrong in these programs. If anyone has any experience with them, let me know .

Check your preferences in X-chat. Maybe auto open the DCC dialog is not set.

Thanks, but it is. It is weird. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesnt. Sometimes it works with a certain user and sometimes it doesnt! :-[

Maybe the problem isn't your settings, but theirs.

It could be firewall related. I'm always d/ling anime, and alot of people use that alternate mIRC only way of serving. You have to issue a command /dccserver sc+ on 59, blah blah blah. Anyway, when that is in effect, you're screwed, because I have yet to find a way around that in Linux.

It SEEMS like it is the other people, but it is hard to know for sure. I just downloaded a lot of music from one person, then tried another one and got the message it was sending, but it never came. Using mIRC in 'doze, if I got a message it was on the way, it always came. I still just wonder if for some senders I need to configure something or do something manual.

Well your X-Chat DCC Send/Receive should be setup on certain ports, and which ever ports you've choosen should be open in your firewall. They should also be forward to the machine that's using X-Chat. Again, if the windows user is using the alternate method of serving then you're still out of luck.
