RH 7.3 with KDE3 , but need modem help...

To all Linux experts,

I am having trouble to set up the internal on board modem drivers for model Conextant ( formerlyt Rockwell) HSfi Softmodem 56k baudrate

Machine dual boot setup: Win Xp Pro and RedHat7.3
Linux kernel is 2.4.18-3
machine: i686
Athlon 1700 GHz
Motherboard: Aopen

For Xp its working well and able to dialup.

Any systematic technical assistance appreaciated.

eeeeeeeeeek! A winmodem!

winmodem = one of the worst hardware ideas ever conceived by human intellectual failure and force fed on an unsuspecting public.

Well, it may or may not ever work in Linux. You need to find out all the details you can about it and then go here and see if there are any drivers floating around for it.

Aha ....

Well, is there any alternative like an external modem with works for Windows and Linux at the same time.
I still like to keep winxp otherwise I wont be able to surf.

I check around but not too sure of those commercial ones work esp looking for unix drivers.

What model is recommended for a newbie esp linux modem setup.

There got to be a solution ...

Any hardware based external modem that connects to a serial port will work in both Windoze and Linux.

If you want an internal, these are known to work well,

USR's 5610B is a hardware PCI modem that works great in Linux. ~$65 retail boxed

Also sold as an OEM model# 2977 ~$42
