    services startup...

    rh 7.3,
I went ntsysv and disabled a lot of unneede services, like rawdevices, nfslock, portmap, etc.
After that I notice that when I reboor the system sendmail startup takes considerably longer than it was before...
Are there any dependencies between sendmail and other services?
What happens if sendmail tries to start (in a default config) but netrwork cable is disconnected?
Did I disable some service that I shuld have left running for sendmail to start faster?
    thx.

hmm ... you didnt mess up your /etc/hosts file by any chance did you? You still have localhost at 127.0.0.0 correct ... Thats about all I can come up with. Or a bad hostname its looking for.

Sendmail will hang at startup if you are having problems with dns. I ran into that one a few years back. Sendmail will take like 30 years to start if your /etc/resolv.conf is not set up correctly or if it cannot contact a nameserver.

The only thing, that will delay sendmails startup, is if it cannot find localhost or localhost.localdomain. Making sure theres a:
    127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain
line in your /etc/hosts file will take care of that.
