    Red Hat Linux 8.0 Support

I have a compaq 1800 T presario laptop with a ATI 128 mobility graphic card. I can install rhl 8.0 fine but during x configuration my video mode cannot be tested in anymore. if i complete the installation and reboot the computer . rhl 8.0 refuses to load x windows and gives me error as no valid screens found.

I believe the error has to do with a new version of xfree86.

also the redhat-config-xfree86 command utility just tries to do a auto probe on my screen.

I am stuck in text mode.

    Any help

    Try running as root user,

    redhat-config-xfree86 --reconfig

This will create a base config /etc/X11/XF86Config

Then look at the file and see if it is correct. If you don't know if it is or not post it.

Your video chipset should be supported.

I'm having the same problem on my IBM a20p w/ ATI 128 mobility video. I have used http://www.zhlive.ch/zhl_contents_linux.html as a refrence, but it's still not working...

Thats not a good sign when two people are having a problem with the same chipset. I don't see any bug reports filed for the ATI 128 mobility.

Can one of you post the output of:

    /sbin/lspci -v | grep -i vga

    and

    /sbin/lspci -n | grep 1:00

I want to confirm that this chipset is supported.
