XP always overwrites the MBR, Spot you are right, it is totally possible to use the Linux bootable CD to load into your current Linux partition, thats what i do , i find it kind of useless to rely on a inefficient and slow floppy drive even though i have one in my machine just because lol.

What would that command be? I have always used LILO until my most recent machine building spree, I decided to use GRUB. I may need to put winblows on the machine for school, and I really don't want to reinstall Red Hat just to do it in order... Thanks!

The slackware boot-up command is: linux root=/dev/hdx noinitrd ro
This is a lilo command as far as I know, but it could work in grub.

once grub is installed, the correct way to install it to the MBR is to first type grub in the shell, then use the following:

grub> root (hd0,0) (Your boot partition)
grub> setup (hd0) (Where the boot record is installed; here, it is the MBR)

if you install linux, then you install windows, then all you need to run would be:

grub> setup (hd0)


since grub would previously be installed and know where your root partition is.
