Problems with Graphics Card on RedHat 7.3

When X starts up, the screen goes black, so I have to restart. According to the RedHat website, it supports my graphics card (GeForce2 MX Generic), so I think I need the newest driver from NVidia. I put the driver (.rpm file) on a floppy disk, but I don't know how to mount the floppy so I can install the .rpm file. Please could someone explain to me how to do this. Much appreciated .

Re:Problems with Graphics Card on RedHat 7.3

OK, I went back through the forums and found how to mount the floppy. I did the following:

    mount /dev/fd0 /mnt/floppy
    cd /mnt/floppy
    rpm -i nvid.rpm

I then rebooted after unmounting the floppy, and a screen came up asking me to configure the graphics card by inputting IP adresses. My computer isn't on the internet, so I just made up an IP address on the spot. After this had finished, Linux carried on booting up as before, and still comes up with a blank screen after the login screen.

So now I am totally stuck. Please help! ??? >

With rh 7.3 to mount the floppy just type
    mount /mnt/floppy

Ha ha ha ha - an ip address for a video card lol. An ip address hahahahaha, ok i'll shut up now.

Have you got the correct drivers for your card?
go to the nvidia website and download the NVChooser

There should be two rpm's to install

Go to page 2 of this forum and read the topic G-Force card

a note about installing rpms - type, rpm -ivh, instead of just, rpm -i,. This installs, verifies and give you lil hashes to watch the install progress.

    Hope this helpsn - Frisky

X is networked. It has a server and a client
this means you can run a prog from one pc on another
The IP should be 127.0.0.1 (localhost)

Re:Problems with Graphics Card on RedHat 7.3

I did what you said, I downloaded NVchooser.sh, did dos2unix etc, and it said I needed two different rpm's, NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-2313.src.rpm and NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-2313.i386.rpm. I installed the kernel rpm fine, but I when I tried to install the GLX file, this came up:

    Error: failed dependencies
    NVidia_Kernel is needed by NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-2313.i386.rpm

    What does this mean?

Re:Problems with Graphics Card on RedHat 7.3

OK so I followed that guide step by step, downloaded the two required tar.gz files, put them into directories and typed make for the kernel file and an error came up. So I went to the troubleshooting section to read what to do. I followed these instructions (made a directory called video etc) and tried "make" again. This error came up:

depmod: *** Unresolved symbols in /lib/modules/2.4.18-3bigmem/kernel/drivers/video/NVdriver

    make: *** [package-install] Error1

This error is similar to what came up the first time. I carried on and edited the XF86Config anyway, and startx produced the black screen yet again. I'm now very confused :- ???

XF86Config. Was I supposed to edit a different one?
