Networking Mandrake and WindowsXP

i am very new to Linux so please excuse me.

I have 2 machines in my home network that were both running WindowsXP. I have now installed Linux Mandrake 8.2 on one of them. The problem i have now is that i don know how to get files from either side of the networked PC's.

I have set up the network cards and they can ping each other! Ie heard something about Samba.

Samba (http://samba.org) is a way of communicating linux and windows, it basically fools the winmachine into thinking it's talking to another win machine. It alows you to "map" drives on the remote linux machine similar to how it would be with a remote win machine.
If it's just a few files, and not all the time, you might also consider transferring them via FTP.

I know how to use FTP on the Linux side (i think), but how do i set up a FTP server on my Windows PC.

Hehehe, I think you might have to search another forum for winders answers. You prolly won't get a very warm reception to windblows questions on a linux board

Try BulletProof FTP Server. That's what I used before I switched to Linux. It has a 45 day free trial I think. More than enough time to do what you need to do.
