SLOW Installation & Errors

I am in the process of installing Mandrake 8.2 and it is now going on 6 hours! It's at the System Install stage and taking forever (going VERY slowly). Also, I have received at least ten errors telling me that a certain package (different each time) has experenced an error in the installation.

Why is this taking so long and why are all these errors poping up? ???

possibly because the cd is damaged??
do you have a linux machine handy? find the md5sum of the cd from the mandrake website and check it
