    JimH,

    Can you help me out with this same problem? Please!
    I read the topic and followed your instruction.
    Samba is running and swat is listening.
    I editted the file to disable = no
    Still I get that connection is broken error.
    What else can I try?

    I have redhat 7.3 and samba is 2.2.5
    I finally got Xp to see my new linux install
    I mapped the drive. It seems finicky!
    Sometimes I get error messages saying cant find the network path and check your permissions and the like.
    Searching by IP works good but you gotta know that aint right.
    Hoping to setup LinNeighbourhood. Just downloaded the tar.gz but would like to work out this swat thing.
    I can ping 127.0.0.1 and the linksys router at 192.168.1.1
    When I installed I choose no firewall.

    Any ideas? thanx

    What is the exact error message you are getting? Are you sure swat is listening?

    # netstat -an | grep 901
    tcp 0 0 0.0.0.0:901 0.0.0.0:* LISTEN

    I think Samba support for XP is still flakely. I don't have an XP box to test it out on. :P

    Post a copy of your /etc/xinetd.d/swat file.

    Re:SWAT Connection to 127.0.0.1:901 refused

    Also I find something else confusing.
    On the linux box I am able to see my main machine.
    However I cannot see the upstairs machine.(XP as well)
    These tow XP machines been staring at each other for quite some time now without a hitch.
    Isnt it odd that I can only see one and not the other.
    Now for the really weird part.
    I have installed the 7.3 redhat a few times now cause I keep screwing it up. I was able to see that upstairs machine at one point. However and this is not gospel, I thought at one point that the Main machine had to be on in order to see the upstairs unit.
    If that's not all too confusing to follow does it shed any light for you?
    BTW what do you do for a living? Can't be computers? Woouldn't be any fun all day and then helping people at night too!

    only_from = localhost

    user = root

    server = /usr/sbin/swat

    log_on_failure += USERID
