Hello ,
I have installed Mandrake Linux 8.2 (Kernel 2.4.18) and my modem is the Rockwel softk56 PCI data/fax/voice/speakerphone modem (winmodem(HSF Modem)). And, my processor is Intel Pentium 700 MHZ processor with MMX AND SSE. The modem details are:
MODEM #1:
PCI CONFIGURATION INFORMATION READ:
VENDOR ID : 127A
DEVICE ID : 2015
SUBVENDOR ID : 127A
SUBDEVICE ID : 2015
REVISION ID : 01
DEDUCED INFORMATION:
VENDOR NAME : ROCKWEL
DEVICE NAME : HSF DATA/FAX/VOICE/SPEAKERPHONE
SUBVENDOR NAME : UNKNOWN
MODEM TYPE : HSF
WINXP INBUILD SUPPORT : YES
I have installed the Linux drivers for this modem(hsflinmodem-5.03.03.L2mbsibeta02060200k2.4.18_6mdk-1mdk.i586.rpm)(http://www.mbsi.ca/cnxtlindrv/) developed by Conexant Systems Inc. in cooperation with Marc Boucher. And, the readme file included with this driver says that the modem with this Vendor and Device ID is supported by this driver.
The messages during installation say that the modem driver has been installed and the country specific information are also correctly set (INDIA) and that I can access the modem as dev/ttyshso. And, I have specified all the internet settings correctly(Internet UserID, Password, ph.no, primary DNS, secondary DNS, etc.). But, when I try to connect to the internet, there is the familiar click in the modem (as in, when it starts to dial in Windows 98), but here it does not dial and the message appears that the internet connection failed.
What could be the problem here?
I have no personal experience with winmodems.
Try this PCTel modem howto and see if it helps you any.
