Is there a linux port of it? Got a link?
I was just wondering if anyone has tried to get Jedi Knight2:Jedi Outcast to run on Linux yet. I'm completely hooked on this game. Of course I wouldn't have a clue how to set it up in linux or I would try. Heck. I haven't even set up quake3 or rtcw yet though I plan on finding out how and trying to set them up in the near future.

DrakeCode,
I tried to install it using the lastest CVS of WineX, however it would just hang during the installation process. So I installed it to a win32 machine then copied the directory over to my Linux WineX directory. This seems to work ok, however the game play's aweful slow.
Other users have reported that they are fully capable of installing the game with WineX, and they are able to play at speeds better then Win98. They are so lucky. I wish I could achieve this.

Well good news. There is two versions of WineX. The one based off of the Wine branch, and the one based off the WineX 2.0 branch. If your wanting to run Jedi Knight 2 Outcast, then by using the WineX Re-Wind 2.0 branch you can get pretty good speeds. Very playable.
I didn't realize that I was using the one based off the Wine branch, and it gave poor performance for JK2.

There are two different version of wineX? ??? ??? Is that why I cant get it to install on mine either? Mine would also hang during install (it would come up with the install screen and freeze there). So how do I copy the directory over to linux and which directory?
HEy, I have a question, I have my nvidia drivers installed for my tnt2 card, and I copied the outcast directory to a cd and moved it over to my linux partition. When I tried to run it, I said that I didnt have directx8 only 6, and that I didnt have any 3d support. Is there a setting in the wine config Ive missed? Just wondering.
Yes, to get the rewind branch otherwise known as WineX 2.0 do as follows:
cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.winex.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/winex login
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.winex.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/winex co -rwinex-2-0-branch wine
To get the lastest WineX do as follows:
cvs -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.winex.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/winex login
cvs -z3 -d:pserver:anonymous@cvs.winex.sourceforge.net:/cvsroot/winex co wine
For Jedi Knight 2: Jedi Outcast, the WineX 2.0 (Rewind Branch) is what you need.

Got it downloaded last night. I will try to get it installed tonight and hopefully spanking some storm troopers by nightfall. ;D ;D
Well, it worked like a screen door in a submarine. I actually got it to work once, but when I tried to start the game from the non-install screen, it took a dump. I will post my wine/config file when I get home. Im getting pretty close to being out of ideas on this. ANyone?
Once you have d/l'd the WineX 2.0 source code, all you need to do is type ./tools/wineinstall and this will install WineX 2.0, and setup the config file correctly. All you need to do is follow a few on-screen instructions when they are prompted.
