If you run up2date and get your system registered, it'll automatically update any packages you have installed. You can also install new packages with it, providing you know their names. Note: by default, up2date will not update kernel packages.
The alternative is reading through all the various erratta, which mention the the package names, and running rpm -qa |grep <package name> to see if you have it in stall or not, and then grabbing the updates that are necessary.
