ethernet card problem with suse 7.1

    Hi,
Im pretty much a linux newbie
I succesfully installed suse linux 7.1 and it even recognised my accton ethernet card
but it fails every time i try to assign the ip address
i have a cabel modem so i am trying to get to automatically detect the ip via dhcp.
whenever i tell it to get the ip address automatically via dhcp it says "failed to assign ip address".
    Can anyone help me?

Do you have a dhcp client installed? If not, you'll need to install one. Other rpm based distros often use a client called pump.
