    .deb .tar.gz .rpm

    hello,

    i'm looking for some technical information about these file compressions, how they are compressed and how i have to decompress them... the commands on the command line...

    i hope that someone can help me

    For a look at the inner working of rpm:

    For .debs try these:

    http://www.debian.org/doc/manuals/debian-faq/

    For tar.gz look:

    man tar
    man gzip
    man bzip2

    and look at the "Installing software" thread on the board it has a link to a tutorial on installing software from sources.
