soundcard woes

I am starting to get the hang of this Linux stuff. But coming from windows it is a little strange. I am now having trouble with sound. Linux is not recognizing my sound card. It could be integrated, I am not 100 percent sure at this time. But I don't believe that it is. Anyway I would like to know if anyone has any advice. By the way I am running Mandrake 8.2

We are going to have to know exactly what sound card you have. The more details on the your hardware you can provide the better.

No wonder you can't get it to work. :P Is this thing a combo modem/sound card? A google search only turned up "I can't it to work" . I think you are going to be better off getting another sound card from what I saw. It doesn't look to good.

I kind of figured that it was a combo or maybe integrated. I think that I will get a new sound card anyway. I need an excuse.
