Can you post the output of these:
cat /etc/fstab
ls -l /dev/cdrom*
What motherboard are you using? Which ide controller is the ide cdrom connected to? What model SCSI card is the scsi cdrom connected to and is it an ISA or PCI card?

Hi m8
hope you can help, i think its a script problem but not sure. When i click on my cdrom i get the "desktop entry file /home/snow/desktop/cdrom device is of type fsdevice but has no dev..entry".
I can only assume that my cdrom is not mounted properly, i get the same for my floppy too.
I'm using mandrake 8.1, scsi cdrom and ide cdrom. duron 700, 256mb ram.
any help appreciated

OK, now here's a problem. You don't mount with what you typed above. Try this instead:when I type mount /dev/dcrom /mnt it says my cdrom is read only. when i go to look at my cdrom i see /mnt and can see the contents of the cd. but i dont see /mnt/cdrom which is odd.
mount /mnt/cdrom2
to mount the scsi cdrom
mount /mnt/cdrom
to mount the ide cdrom
As for the desktop icons, myself, I'd delete them and make them again from scratch.
You can do so by right-clicking on the desktop and choosing "create new-->cdrom device" from the menu that pops up.
Name it so that you'll know which cdrom is which.
To set it up, get into the icon's properties and go to the device tab.
For the scsi cdrom, set the device as /dev/scd0 from the list in the dropdown menu there and check off where it say 'read only'.
For the ide cdrom, you'd set the device to /dev/hdd and check off 'read only' once again.
Filesystems should be automatic, I can't say for sure though offhand until I can get my hands on a Drake 8.1 box to verify.
This *should* get you where you need to be as far as the cdroms go.
As far as the floppy icon goes, the device should be set to /dev/fd0. I had horrible luck using floppies under Drake 8.1, but since I rarely if ever used them, it wasn't a huge deal for me.
