Yes config is a drag, you can always run Xconfig if you load X first then use console to run make xconfig. You don't do make modules or make modules_install? Hmmm, wonder if there is a problem in slack where nothing can be loaded as a module, that doesn't seem feasible though. There has to be slack users with modules.

BzLilo? hmmm...strange....is your lilo config pointing to BzLilo and not BzImage?

Ok,I got ticked off and deleted the partition slack was on so I cannot give details on the error messages I got.I do know it was an x-server error but I configured x from a console prior to my attempted kernel compile.I should have checked the Forum before I deleted cuz you folks may have saved me from a reinstall.Thanks for taking the time to help me though,but why is Slack such a pain compared to other Linux Distros.

# make bzlilo, prevents me from typing:

# cp /boot/vmlinuz /boot/vmlinuz.old
# cp /arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz
# lilo

Got this command from SuSE Reference Manual that comes with 7.1 and 7.2

Slackware was not designed to be anymore of a pain than any other distro. The difference lies in the fact that Slackware does not automatically setup many programs from installation like many other distro's do. Also another major difference in Slackware from every other distro out there is that it uses a BSD style init system whereas the rest use the SysV style init system.

Basicaly Slackware was designed for the power user I suppose because it pretty much say's here's all the stuff your going to need but if you want to use it then you are going to set it up. That way your system is fairly slim by the time you have everything you want working -- working.
