Ok,I got ticked off and deleted the partition slack was on so I cannot give details on the error messages I got.I do know it was an x-server error but I configured x from a console prior to my attempted kernel compile.I should have checked the Forum before I deleted cuz you folks may have saved me from a reinstall.Thanks for taking the time to help me though,but why is Slack such a pain compared to other Linux Distros.
# make bzlilo, prevents me from typing:
# cp /boot/vmlinuz /boot/vmlinuz.old
# cp /arch/i386/boot/bzImage /boot/vmlinuz
# lilo
Got this command from SuSE Reference Manual that comes with 7.1 and 7.2
