Thread: KDE!! AHHHH!!!

    KDE!! AHHHH!!!

Well KDE is a royal pain in the A$$ to install in Debian. It is giving me dependency problem after dependency problem. Augh...I think I have forced so many files to be installed that I am going to have to format everything to get a fresh start. Augh, which means setting up my vcard again and soundcard and downloading the new kernel. Oh what a pain!!! :'(

I like Debian, but at the same time I hate its very existance!
Hmmm....oh well, after I get this KDE thing all worked out, I'll write another OM about how I got it installed. That will be two OM's for the OMP! Woo Hoo! That one will prolly be distro specific though. Well catch you later....oh yeah, welcome McDuck and Ace62 to GLO! Post to your hearts desire, maybe show these other guys how to do it, they been slow lately!

I've heard the same thing about Gnome. It's supposed to be this much of a pain in the arse for any distro that doesn't come with it installed or in an easy RPM type package.
I've heard about 30 dependencies to download for Gnome. Don't know about KDE... good luck ;D

    Re: KDE!! AHHHH!!!

did you try "apt-get install kde-core"?

that will install the bare minimum kde set (no kde games, blablabla). I didn't do that with kde but i did install gnome that way (gnome-core) and it installed without any hickups. I prefer it that way anyway, I don't like installing all these extra applications that I know I will never use.

Heh, oops. How many people actually actively visit here? I think it's a great domain name, it needs to be made known.

At one time there were many many people that visited this place, but it came under cracker attack, and went down for a week or so. Once it managed to come back, there were almost no users left.

That's too bad. Was that recent? Can we maybe get slashdot to mention it? I am always looking for a good linux forum where I can get help.

If you mention it to slashdot, my poor IRC server may die a miserable death.

My server is the one you connect to if you click the "Live Help" link from the front page.

Then again... my server may survive because the web site will probably die long before there are enough interested users to click that link lol.

As neat as this place is Xamindar, we have no real way to keep it going. The owner of the website has been MIA for a very long time now. Some things are in dire need of upgrade and or fixing.

Babbing, and I have access to the web admin tool but no way to add any major features. We can't do much on these forums either. I do promote GLO a little bit, but if we were to promote it that much.... well we might collapse on ourselves.

Although the few of us that are left over will try to help people when we can. As for gaxprels my man, well your questions are just to hard ???.
