dmesg, for those of us that didn't know

Yeah, so I was trying to troubleshoot a problem I was having with my network card this past weekend. I needed to see my bootup messages, when driver loading and hardware detection was going on. I found my answer in dmesg, I used:

    Code:
    dmesg | less
and I could see everything that happened with the kernel durning boot up. Officially its called "The Kernel Ring Buffer", but I just think its handy. So there you go, for those of us that didn't know.

It also shows new system messages (such as when you add a new module or plug in a usb thingy...)

Dmesg is excellent. I also use another handy app:

    lshw (read: list hardware )

Which does something similar to dmesg.

After running that I realized that I had another RAM bank unfilled, time to go out and buy more! Especially with prices what they are...
