Computer program raises possibility of voice theft

    Hi,

Interesting article about a new technology from AT&T that quote, "convincingly mimics a particular voice by reconstructing its individual nuances and intonations from pre-recordings". Just think now criminals will not only be able to steal your identity, but also your voice. It says the technology isn't that far along yet.

Oh well, pretty soon with technology being the way it is, it will be possible to steal about everything human from another human!

The real question is, will this software have a Linux port? ;D

We can always hope. ;D Does have alot of potential, especially for blind computer users, better text-to-speech applications would help them alot.

Have you played with any of the voice recognition software out there, besides spending 3 hours to train the darn things they still are worthless. Dragon is the nicest one I have ever used and I still had to speak to it like it was 20 words behind my first word! : :P

I played with the Windoze version of IBM's Viavoice on a friends computer and it worked very well. I don't remember what version it was, but the newer versions are probably even better. They also have a Linux version. ;D. You have too make sure you have a real high quality microphone too get good results.
