    RTCW Linux binaries :-)

YEAH! Linux binaries have been released for Return to Castle Wolfenstein. ;D;D;D

Too bad my Radeon 7500 DRI support doesn't work yet. :'(

JimH makes a mental note to himself to upgrade his own system..

Hey jimH, what exactly do you need to do? Just download a driver or is there more to it than that?

    Re:RTCW Linux binaries :-)

I forgot about this thread I started. :P The original problem with getting DRI to work with my Radeon 7500 turned out to be a problem with the driver and the old MVP3 chipset on the motherboard I was using. DRI would not work at all with the 7500 and the old mb. After I built my new system DRI works ;D RTCW did work on the old mb in windoze with the 7500. :-/ When I try to run RTCW now in Linux it locks up. The game runs now, all the intro's play prefectly, but when I try to start a game it locks up almost right away. I have not tried multi-player yet. So I don't know if this is a problem with just single player or not.

It is probably just a problem with the still beta quality 7500 drivers. Although I was wondering if this might be the Linux/AMD AGP bug showing up, but I kind of doubt that. I need to play with it some more and see if I can figure anything out.

The RTCW linux binaries are free for download, but you need some files off the windoze cd for it to run.

    Re:RTCW Linux binaries :-)

New Linux binaries were released on Friday, Version 1.3, so I figured I would try them and see if they would cure my lockup problem. They didn't. :'( I decided to try playing with the setting and see if changing any of them would allow the game to run. SUCCESS! Disabling the use of gl extensions cures the lockup problems. ;D It definitely reduces the framerate. :'( but the game is still very playable. ;D Hopefully they will get the gl problems straightened out, but at least I can play in Linux now. ;D

    That's great JimH,

I use an Nvidia GeForce 2 Pro to play RtCW in Linux. Works very nicely. Maybe I'll see you online one day :-)

Hmm...I think Aragorn need's to start a GLO clan ;D

    Re:RTCW Linux binaries :-)

The gl problem I am having apparently isn't just isolated to my Radeon 7500. I have see reports from users of Matrox cards with the exact same problem. Hopefully they will get it fixed soon.

I haven't tried multiplayer. I do remember reading in the release notes for the 1.3 update that you will not be able to play on servers running the punkbuster software if you do not have it installed. Could this be your problem?

There is no need to install punkbuster, as it comes packaged with the 1.3 update. All you have to do is enable it from within the game....

Yes, it comes with the update, but you can choose not to install it.
